Places for diving

You can find the diving sites in São Tomé and Príncipe in three areas Islet of Rolas, Island of São Tomé and Island of Príncipe. Besides di-ving and snorkeling, this archipelago offers memorable moments to watch the dolphins and humped whales. The dolphins show themselves in a pleasant manner all over the year while the whales, show themselves from August to November. Another unforgettable moment is the sea turtles spawning. It is possible to watch its spawning during the whole year, although it is advisable from October to April in the West and North beaches, where the beach Micolo emerges. The most visited beach in the South is Jale. From the seven species of sea turtles existent in the world, five swim in the waters of São Tomé and Príncipe The Eretmochelys imbricata that is locally known as “Sada”, Dermochelys coriaceous – “Ambulance”, the Lepidochelys olivacea – “Tato”, the Chelonia mydas – “Mao Branca” and the Carretta carreta – “Cabeça Grande.” It is important to emphasize that São Tomé and Príncipe is a member of CITES – Convention on the International Trade of the Species of Wild Fauna and Flora Threatened of Extinction, that prohibits the commercialization and export of the sea turtles products.
