PROCEDURES FOR THE VISITOR
A citizen of any country who is willing to visit São Tome and Principe must obtain a visa at the Consulate of São Tome and Principe in the country of departure.
If there is no Consulate, the visitor may require an Entry Permit at the SMF (Immigration Border Services) through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org (seven working days to get a response).
According to the Joint Order No. 1 D.R. nr. 117, of October 2011, the price for an Entry Visa in São Tome and Principe is 490 000 STD (four hundred and ninety thousand São Tome and Principe Dobras, equivalent to 20 euros). Children pay half of this amount. All payments made on the border must have a receipt.
At the border the visitor must provide proof that he/she has a return ticket as well as of an amount available for subsistence equivalent to 100 euros per day.
TIME AND BUSINESS HOURS
The official time of São Tome and Principe is TMG, coincident with the mainland Portugal.
Services are open from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 17:30, and on Saturdays from 8:00 to 13:00. The public administrative sector operates from Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 15:30. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Since 1977 Dobra is the national currency of São Tome and Principe, abbreviated as STD. There are banknotes from 5000 to 100 000 Dobras, with intermediate values of 10,000, 20 000 and 50 000.
According to the latest agreement of currency peg between São Tome and Principe and the European Union, through Portugal, 1 Euro is equivalent to 24 500 Dobras.
São Tome and Principe has an updated technology to ensure international satellite communications. International calls can be made in all the hotels and resorts, phone booths and mobile phone recharge cards can be purchased at the CST store, that is São Tome telecommunications’ company store.
The Internet network is available especially in the hotels and at various points in the cities. The phone access code is 239.
The electrical system is 220 volts, and the sockets used in the country are the same as the ones used in Europe.
AIR TRAFFIC CONNECTIONS
TAP – Air Portugal has three weekly flights between Lisbon and São Tome and Prin-cipe, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The return flights are also on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The trips have an average duration of six hours.
STP Airways, the national airline of São Tome, flies on Fridays between Lisbon and São Tome. The return trip is on Saturdays. STP Airways has four weekly flights with the Island of Principe, each flight lasting 50 minutes.
There are air connections from São Tome to Luanda, Angola – an hour and a half flight – to Libreville, Gabon – one hour flight – and to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, by STP Airways.
Tourism, associated to discovery and eco-tourism, is a major economic choice of São Tome and Principe. Currently, diverse tourist packages are available in several travel agencies.
